About CJ Walsh

Originally from Boston and now based in Stuttgart, Germany, CJ Walsh is a touring and recording drummer, lyricist, and music journalist with more than 30 years of experience behind the kit.

A self-taught drummer who started playing in 1995, CJ grew up on punk rock but has never been particularly interested in limiting himself to one genre. Over the years, he's played everything from punk and psychobilly to rockabilly, metal, country, and pop. For CJ, it's always been about playing what works for the song, rather than making every song about the drummer.

Currently playing with German psychobilly band Raw King Rats, CJ previously spent four years behind the kit for punk band Dumb Bats. His experience includes touring, recording, and performing at festivals including Punk Rock Holiday, Weltturbojugendtage, Wasted in Jarmen, and Koppel of Rock. Over the years, he's appeared on bills alongside bands including Dwarves, Supersuckers, Demented Are Go!, The Quakes, and The Baboon Show.

His work hasn't been limited to the stage. CJ has contributed lyrics to original recordings and continues to develop his songwriting collaborations. He's also an active music journalist, writing reviews and features covering artists from across the musical spectrum. As a lifelong music fan and record collector, writing about music is another way to stay involved in the scenes he's spent much of his life supporting.

Whether it's playing to a few dozen people in a club or a few thousand at a festival, CJ approaches the job the same way: show up prepared, play the songs properly, and enjoy the hell out of it.

Based in Germany and available internationally, CJ welcomes enquiries about touring, recording sessions, dep work, lyric writing, and other musical collaborations.
